The Swaffham Prior bypass - it's more pleasant to go through the village.

Helpful - no road signs. Newmarket is to the right.

Not many here today. I think I'm going to get wet #NotTheReachRide https://t.co/PiI43Fc9vq

Cycle lanes provided only where the road widens out for turn lanes etc.

Crossing

Bridge across the Great Ouse to Littleport

This road has become a bit of an eastern bypass for Ely (linking to the southern bypass)

The Ely Southern Bypass - massively over budget, but they couldn't find a few quid for a cycle lane.

A couple of hundred metres of shared-use path would keep Cambridge-Newmarket cyclists off the A1304.

Give way paint not renewed in resurfacing work last year, leading to confusing directions that differ for those leaving vs those entering

The crossing of Quy Road, which looks like it has recently been in collision with something.

Wide shared-use footway through the railway underpass.

The new traffic signals to control flow through the railway underpass have no signals to help walkers / cyclists.

Approaching Lode on the main road.

Crossing near Anglesey Abbey.

Burrough Green (England, United Kingdom)

Looking at the end of the new pathway from across the road, Anglesey Abbey-side. Somehow an informal uncontrolled crossing is going to be installed here. There's no possible way the refuge is going to be large enough for a bicycle much less ... [more]

This expanse of tarmac remains largely unused during Reach Fair. A few bikes parked against buildings.

Some kind of depot that has a hardstanding area which could be used for cycle parking in the event of wet weather on the day of the #ReachRide

A large area of tarmac that could possibly be the location for the cycle parking at Reach Fair 2014.

Heavy agricultural vehicles - best to keep well out of their way as they could squash you and the driver wouldn't feel a thing.

With the road closed for a street party we wheeled our bikes past.

Shared-use path with car parking in Burwell - odd, but not really a problem.

The obvious route for cyclists in Burwell - a shame it's one-way.

The National Cycle Network route sticks to the road rather than cutting through the Burwell recreation ground.

Short gravel section of the National Cycle Network bypassing the centre of Burwell.

Cow Bridge on the very handy 'Swaffham Bulbeck bypass'.

The road up to the new bridge is heavily potholed, but rideable.

This used to be an agricultural distribution point but is now in part of the fen that is due to be flooded. There's lots of concrete roads around here, breaking up.

Bumpy grass terrain here - but rideable if you've got the appropriate tyres / machine. See the short video at #23760.

Dedicated volunteers clear away the broken glass we found on this section of the road. We think we got most of it - and it could have caused punctures on Monday.

Approaching a junction where we have to cross onto the Cycle Path on the otherside. Reach Fair Reconnaissance ride - 2010

The oncoming cyclist on the shared used path here demonstrates why it would be impractical for our big ride to be using that path. Reach Fair Reconnaissance ride - 2010

This gate is the entrance to a field where Cycle Parking area for Reach Fair ride was proposed. Thankfully we've got a much nearer entrance.

Excessively narrow cycle lane, stupid ending. This is just bad. Mind the car!

All of the cycle lanes in Ely are dangerously narrow - 800mm generally. That pushes cyclists far too close to the kerb and encourages drivers to pass when there is insufficient space.
