Aldreth Causeway, between the Ouse bridge and Aldreth after a shower of heavy rain. This is a byway.

This footway has recently been widened, but its not clear if it is intended to be used as a cycleway.

End of the St Johns Rd path, looking towards the A10. The section of unimproved byway needs rebuilding to complete the link.

Short unsurfaced section of byway to the east of the A10

Looking across the A10 to St Johns Rd byway to Witchford

Perfect position for a bridge linking the Westfield Farm estate and Ely to Witchford

Byway from Witchford to Westfield Farm estate. Crossing of the A10 (at bottom of hill). There should be sufficient level difference here for a cycle bridge.

The existing byway would make an excellent traffic free cycle route between Ely and Witchford.

The existing shared footway is much too narrow and is further narrowed by encroaching vegetation. The full width available needs to be exploited and maintenance needs to be improved. Speeding is an issue judging by the speed activated ... [more]

Existing byway to Westfield Farm Estate in Ely (1km) This would make a perfect traffic free cycle route with improvement. Existing track width 2m. A crossing refuge is needed here, 3m wide to accomodate trailer bikes.

This cycle track needs to be continued around the north side of the roundabout to link with the Witchford Rd track. A flush kerb should also be provided further along to allow cyclists to join the track smoothly after the roundabout with ... [more]

Roadside cycle track quickly narrows to only 1.5m - insufficient for shared use. Witchford Rd.

Crossing of Witchford Road. Give way triangle is wrongly orientated. Cyclists should also be able to join the road here via a protected cycle lane merge like the one shown in #17513

Bedwell Hey Lane - surfaced bridleway. Needs a bit of patching but otherwise perfectly suitable as an access to the Lancaster Way business park.

Existing surfaced bridleway - Bedwell Hey Lane. This gives access to the end of the Lancaster Way business park. Remove the wooden kissing gate on the right hand side (out of picture) and replace the loose gravel with a sealed surfac ... [more]

South end of Heath Road byway - evidently motorbikes are allowed.

The Woodditton-Dullingham bridleway

Woodditton - south end of Dane Bottom bridleway. Pretty slow going, with no advantage over the road just to the east.

Start of Dane Bottom bridleway to Woodditton. Pretty slow going, with no advantage over the road just to the east.

Wilderness Junction - a junction of four extremely quiet roads in the middle of nowhere! Headlake Drove - the road across Tubney Fen towards Wicken Fen.

Turn right here for the Wicken Fen Spine cycle route.

The shared use cycleway alongside the busy main road.

The shared use cycleway alongside the busy road from Lode to Swaffham Bulbeck.

Lode lode.

Here's a motorist who thinks that shared-use footpaths are not for walkers or cyclists, they're for cars. It was still there an hour and a half later.

Traffic calming as applied to cyclists. Actually it's to keep the wild ponies in their pasture.

Swaffham Bulbeck: The path on the right is part of the Sustrans national network and really should not be but it is of such poor quality.

6 miles to Newmarket by car, 15 by bike!
