106646Photo #106646"Car storage is free of charge: Tell your friends, Come back soon." (to our congested, polluted city)

This city once organized a march against a 30p car parking charge.

We found it quite a hostile place for cycling.

Cyclists Dismount does not mean No Cycling and so why is it there? Is it to appease other users? See #106639.

Some drone footage of the Ely Southern Bypass are at www.facebook.com/watch/

106639Photo #106639The access to the cycleway is a bit odd, we've ridden along a few hundred yards of grass along the top of an embankment to this point, there's no path up to it from the asphalt road below. Bollards guard the entrance (usually there to stop motor vehicles) and there's a Cyclists Dismount sign.

Cyclists Dismount does not mean No Cycling.
There's no obvious reason to dismount as the access onto the ramp is flush. Sometimes these signs are used when the parapet height of the bridge is below that considered safe for cycling, but this is a new bridge built with cycling in mind and they seem high enough see #106640. So it is a mystery to me why these signs have been put there - presumably to appease other users?

I wonder if this is an official road closure as we saw a lot of cars using Little Fen Drove.

95443Photo #95443New crossing of B1102 near Anglesey Abbey. The refuge appears to be approximately 1.8 - 2 metres deep. Although this seems to be the same length as a typical bicycle, you would have to be extraordinarily confident to try and wait in this refuge while cars raced past you. My perception while using it is that my wheels were overhanging the edges and would be clipped by passing cars if I tried to wait.Cycleway:

94793Photo #94793Looking at the end of the new pathway from across the road, Anglesey Abbey-side. Somehow an informal uncontrolled crossing is going to be installed here. There's no possible way the refuge is going to be large enough for a bicycle much less anything else. The connections at either end are the weaknesses of this otherwise decent scheme, unfortunately.Road environment:
