The Cycle Parking for Reach Fair. We were allocated a field. It had a long wire fence alongside which at least provided something to lean the bikes against, if not very secure. I think we have more work to do to improved the cycle parkin ... [more]

Dedicated volunteers clear away the broken glass we found on this section of the road. We think we got most of it - and it could have caused punctures on Monday.

After checking that the roadworks were really not operational we moved this sign clear of the cycle path. Reach Fair Reconnaissance ride - 2010

The oncoming cyclist on the shared used path here demonstrates why it would be impractical for our big ride to be using that path. Reach Fair Reconnaissance ride - 2010

Cycle Parking area for Reach Fair ride. This is very close to the fair itself, and cycles can be locked to the wire fence on the left. Most riders will be in groups and will want to lock bikes to each other. Access is through this gat ... [more]

Gate into the Cycle Parking area for Reach Fair ride. I have lifted the gate off its hinges here and set it back against the fence, this will make it possible for us to wheel our bikes through.

This gate is the entrance to a field where Cycle Parking area for Reach Fair ride was proposed. Thankfully we've got a much nearer entrance.

Lots of cycle racks at Ely station, and they are full to bursting.

Excessively narrow cycle lane, stupid ending. This is just bad. Mind the car!

All of the cycle lanes in Ely are dangerously narrow - 800mm generally. That pushes cyclists far too close to the kerb and encourages drivers to pass when there is insufficient space.

Heritage traffic calming - this is an uncontrolled crossing but drivers treat it like a zebra.

Raised zebra crossing, block paved, in heritage area.

Ely Cathedral

Crossover at field entrance needs improvement.

Excessively wide, flared entry to fuel station. Gratuitous dismount signs - should never be used on a cycle route.

Unpleasant, disjointed, 1.8m wide cycle track alongside roundabout. Poor visibility alongside a busy road - no room for mistakes.

Many people prefer to join the road to negotiate the roundabout and this bad entrance to the petrol station. Not just die hard roadies either, see this lady in the previous photo #17567 .

Wide circulating lane makes it difficult to predict where traffic is heading.

Widely flared entry and exit arms are difficult and dangerous to cross

Visibility is very poor looking up the A10. People cannot see fast approaching traffic.

Very unpleasant crossing of the A10. The approach arms are wide and flared, making crossing difficult and dangerous. Not much deflection on this roundabout. A more "continental arrangement would make crossing easier and safer. Note th ... [more]

This is a great little path, connecting Witchford Rd to St Johns Rd at the top of the rise (houses on the skyline).

This is a great little path, serving the housing between the A10 and Witchford Rd, unfortunately marred by barriers. where it meets the road. Replace with simple bollards.

This great little path, serving the housing between the A10 and Witchford Rd, is marred by these dreadful barriers. These will stop a trailer bike or child trailer and are a pain for all users. Replace with simple bollards.

Poor visibility at this excessively wide side road entrance (Norfolk Rd). Reduce junction width and flair to improve visibility and reduce crossing length. On road cycle lanes are probably more appropriate for this type of road.

Poor visibility at this cul-de-sac. Put cycle path on a raised table across side roads and give the cycle path priority. On road cycle lanes are probably more appropriate for this type of road.

Cycle path needs clear priority over driveway entrances. Entrance width needs reducing.

New path to housing development. Nice path, visibility could be improved at junction with Witchford Rd.

New path feeding housing development. Needs a gap in the fence here though to give access to these houses without having to jump the rail or go up and back down again.

Great path, but move the bin !

The path alignment and width could be improved by taking it behind the tree line or making use of the adjacent residential street.

Speeding is clearly an issue on Witchford Rd. The speed activated signs were being repeatedly triggered by passing vehicles in both directions.

This block paved crossing is a good principle, but the priority needs to be reversed and the crossing needs to go on a speed table. It might be better to route the cycle track down the adjacent street instead. Another improvement would b ... [more]
